AK Adventure Day 52: to Homer

Checked in the van...and headed off to a local coffee shop to pass the time.  Just love quaint stuff!!

Cool chair planter idea...

Cool tree trunk table idea...

Van update: one of the huge bolts that had something to do with the brake calipers (what was worked on last Friday) came out—that was the metal clinking noise hitting the van running-board...the brake pads slipped...resulting in the eventual grinding noise...so all was put back together and off I went!!

...Homer bound...again!!...still LOTS of forest fire smoke!!  Sad for the tourists!!

Just since I was last this way...I could now see where the fire had come down south close to the road and power lines.

My local friend gave me the latest update: “The ‘containment’ date is Aug 31. They’re only interested now in keeping it away from power lines the highway and cabins. Rain hopefully will come and put it out. 99,000 acres and growing daily. I’m tired of smoke heat and helicopters.”

Back in Homer...amazingly COOL weather...just the way AK is supposed to BE!!  LOVE IT!!

I drove out to the Joneses to borrow a dandelion digging tool...and alas...many of the peonies had blooms—they were past the magic time to harvest!! That’s too bad!!

Since the Hesketh Island adventure was not going to happen until at least 5pm tomorrow...I was relieved to be able to just sleep in...and be in no hurry to get out and about...so another lovely night van sleeping in the Homer Spit free parking lot!!
