Alaska...day 13

After a nice drive from Seward,

we stopped for breakfast at the Sunrise Inn.  It was still too cool to sit outside with the cute artsy craft decor.

We stopped at the Russian River Falls park and hiked to the bear viewing overlook. Too bad the bears didn't get the memo that we were coming...they were sleeping in this morning!!...but it was a pleasant hike and we did see salmon jumping up the rocks.

On the way to Soldotna, we received word there was to be a "belated" 4th of July/celebrate the summer birthdays party at the Johnson beach site tomorrow. So...we revised our tourism plans.

We decided to do some things in Soldotna and Kenai this afternoon...we had well learned to not put off to tomorrow what we could do today!!

We walked down to the Kenai River, hoping to see many salmon fisherman...but it was boring with only a few fishing and they were catching nothing.

Off to Kenai...stopping by their farmers' market...which was really just a craft market...stopped by the Sslvation Army to see if there were any "Alaska" used stuff...then to Veronica's cafe for dinner and a photo op at the Russisn Orthodox church. Pretty much typical tourist stuff for Soldotna/Kenai....all of which except Veronica's/Russian church will come off the next tour itinerary!! :-D

The peeps attended a mass in the evening at the church and then we headed off to the Kasilof Merchantile/Rocky's cafe to check out the souvenirs. The cafe manager asked if we'd been down to the mouth of the Kasilof River to see the dip-netters...since we hadn't and I've never seen that, we headed that way. When we got to the ocean...alas...there were plenty of RV's/vehicles...but no dip-netters!!...I guess they also didn't get the memo that we were coming...or else someone was playing a joke on the cafe manager!!...oh well... It seems to be the same song and dance as to how our vacation is going!!...I definitely need to work on my tour guide skills!!!

Finally at the Johnson's...doing laundry and getting settled in for a good night's rest...the peeps were saying it was going to feel weird not sleeping together in Doña Azul!!

...off tomorrow to the beach to visit with the Johnson clan and fish crew!!!
