I imagine the time zone sign is important so the cruise ship tourists from Skagway don’t get confused and miss their ship!!
Our immediate task was to purchase a ferry ticket for the continuation of our trek to Juneau.
The ferry system had already been on strike for 9 days, but since my sister’s lease was up on the 31st we knew we had to head out anyway!! On our drive out, we heard the strike would end on the 4th, but ferry service out of Skagway would not resume until Aug. 7th. So...tickets were purchased for the 7th!!
WOOHOO!!...some Skagway tourism days were ahead of us!! After a nice dinner, we walked around on our first of four days hanging out waiting for the ferry!!
Very interesting info about what supplies the Canadian Mounties required the Gold Rush explorers to bring with them!!
Over to Dyea, AK to camp...near the trail head for the famous Chilkoot (Gold Rush) Trail.
